Opera Mini and IBM WebSphere Link

Published by irija at 12:30 under tech

Well, as you now, I recently just inherited my sister’s not so new hand me down Sprint Treo 755p and tried to find a link for IBMs WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment v5.7.1.  To my surprise, the direct distribution link that was provided by Palm Inc. was disabled on January 12, 2008 as Palm is not allowed to distribute the package for some unknown reason. I need this application to run Opera’s Mini Web Browser for Moblie Phones and all other Java enabled applications for the Palm OS.

I used it before on the Treo 650 and and wanted to see how much better it would be with the new EVDO data speeds. So, I tracked down a place where you can d/l the Java Environment Program and thought that you might need it. Here it is! Also, the only file that you need in the entire package to sync with your Palm device is located in the WEME571JVM/JVM/ARM4T folder named J9JavaVMMidp20.prc. You could read the enclosed PDF for more details.

Download v5.7.1 at Softonic

After you download it, then click the banner below to download Opera Mini! It’s awesome because you can actually view webpages in all their glory and best of all, it’s free! Check out all the features.

    Irija,

I had downloaded Opera Mini and gotten the JVM err. I then followed your instructions to find and add the JVM, and it installed, but Opera gave the same err: Please ensure that IBM’s WebS….

So, I deleted Opera Mini and the JVM and followed your instructions from the top, and still get the same err :\

    Treo 755p.

    Hello Sandra,

This is the direct lnk for Opera Mini for the Treo 755p. http://www.operamini.com/download/wap/palm/palm_treo_755p/

I initially started to get that error but after doing it twice, it ended up working correctly. Try installing the Java application first, reboot, then followed by Opera Mini from the instructions in the link that I just gave you.

There are also detailed instructions in the file IBM Java zip file in a PDF call WEME 5.7 User Guide.pdf. Just go to page 5 and follow those directions.

Instructions #3 says to “Select J9JavaVMMidp20.prc and j9pref.prc and click Open to add the
files to the Quick Install window.”

I was able to redo the installation on my phone and it’s working just great. Goodluck and tell me how it goes.
