Over the past weekend, a couple that I’ve known since their inception back during our second year in high school finally tied the knot at the Immaculata Catholic Church in San Diego. I had the honor of being a groomsman for Mr. Gregory Johnson and enjoyed the entire day hanging out with the couple, the bridal party and everyone else later that night. Following their ceremony, we ended up taking pictures for a couple of hours around various San Diego sites, then headed to the reception where we danced the night away. My job was simple and now complete but back in a corner of the reception hall was a video editor hacking, cutting, cropping, splicing and post producing various little snippets of film at a rabid pace transforming them into another masterpiece. His name, Christoffer Dumlao from Starcross’d Creative.
Running around throughout the entire day capturing various shots of the event with his creative eye and Canon EOS 5D Mark II, he created yet another Starcross’d Creative Same-Day Edit exhibiting the entire day of the Johnson Wedding. You can always visit their website, peep their other amazing films from full on scripted wedding videos to other multiple same-day edits as well as their new animated film // a true love’s story or better yet, sign up to have their exclusive touch grace your important day.
Here is their final product which was shown at the wedding that night from Starcross’d Creative: you fill my heart \\ melanie + gregory’s same-day edit

Nice video…..the 5dII can produce some really cool stuff when placed in capable hands
I gotta admit, its an awesome production…I’m even more impressed by the fact that they had a same-day turn around. I’ve been using Final Cut Pro since FCP 3 and I can only imagine what it would be like to try and turn something of that caliber around in that short amount of time. Hats off to Starcross’d!
that’s a pretty damn good video..as if i was there!!!
Wow! So awesome to see Greg & Mel tie the knot after 13 yrs. You guys rock!
Great video by the way.
Amazing! Such great work by Starcross’d!
Congrats again to Mr. & Mrs. Johnson!
nice wedding for beautiful couple. Good job by the photographer for lifetime happy memory moments.
Nicely done! Same-day edits is starting to be a commodity in weddings, huh? And congrats to Greg and Mel!
Amazing video!
This is a really nice video. Props to the editor for such a great piece of work.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
Wow. Such a cool wedding and definitely adds to the excitement of the day. I know from just getting married that if there is one thing you don’t want to skimp on it is the pictures and video. I really think that they got this one right!
I LOVE IT!!! I’d want mine to look like that, one day… one day. Congrats to the couple. It’s beautiful.
Wow. So awesome. I spent a whole day looking at the concepts and there were a bunch of tear jerkers. Starcross’d is really creative. I’m actually inspired to shoot more weddings now to pay for a 5d MkII. I think i’ll build my own Merlin Steadicam and Glide track though. Great scoop EJ!
That video is awesome! I now see you in the vid! haha. If I knew them then I would say it was magical and captured their love and happiness on that day very well haha. I hope you guys are able to book them!
same-day huh? pretty awesome.
now I gotta find some cover from all this mushy business–everybody’s getting married and I’m feeling the pressure!
cried a little watching that video. cereal.
From one videographer to another…can anyone at Starcross’d tell me what you guys are using to stabilize your moving shots? They look incredible and I’m just curious what solution you guys are using to achieve such smooth moving shots.
Thanks.
WOW, nice work! I’ll have to look into using Chris in the future.
Hey Eejay! Thanks for writing up this blog post! During the last hour of editing that day, I pretty much zoned everyone/everything out – also trying to be inconspicuous. I didn’t even know anyone noticed me back there.
BIG thank you to everyone for taking the time to watch this clip and leaving the nice comments! It’s very inspiring for us!
Brian, the tracking shots were done using a Glidetrack by Alastair Brown. In order to achieve those first and last shots with the ring, it’s necessary to have something like the Glidetrack, especially when using a Macro lens. The sweeping camera moves were done using a Steadicam Merlin – although I do plan on upgrading to the Glidecam 4000 soon (cheaper than the Merlin too). DM if you have any questions.
Camera specs: Canon 5D MkII, 17-35mm f/2.8-4, 50mm f/1.4, 90mm f/2.8 Macro
Other cameras used: Sony V1U & Z1U
I’m impressed. Pretty amazing what technology and talent can do these days. I’ll be recommending that to anyone I know that might be interested.
