Mariano Rivera Insane Stat

I heard a stat the other day and it blew my mind:

In human history, more people have walked on the moon than have scored an earned run off of Mariano Rivera in the postseason.

Sounds crazy, right? But it’s true.

According to NASA, 12 people have had the privilege of walking on the moon.

According to Baseball Reference, 11 people have scored an earned run off of Playoff Mo.

Amazing. Simply amazing. And to be nominated into the baseball Hall of Fame unanimously. What a career and to be the first player ever unanimously voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame; what an achievement!

MacBook Pro 15” Now with Vega dGPU

Vega GPU options are now available today via selecting the most expensive 15-inch MacBook Pro configuration which starts at $2,799 with a Radeon Pro 560X! If you want to upgrade to the Vega 16, it’ll cost you another $250, while the Vega 20 is $350 more expensive than the base model.

If you opt out of either option, there is the new Blackmagic Pro eGPU for $1,199 which comes with the Vega 56 which can be found on the iMac Pro. I’m interested to see what the benchmarks of all these are although I wish there was an Nvidia compatible eGPU.

Also, I don’t remember the MacBook Pros coming with the 8th generation Intel processors but now they do. Cheers!

Read Between the Lines but Just in Case

But just in case they failed to pick up on her [current President Joanna Geraghty] obvious signals, here’s the message in its most simple and straightforward form: “JetBlue Is For Sale!”

Guess you don’t have.

Tesloop Raking in the Miles

Since the Model S was launched Tesloop has incurred a combined maintenance cost of roughly $19,000 or about $0.05/mile. This cost breaks down to $6,700 for general vehicle repairs and $12,200 for regularly scheduled maintenance. The Model S’ full service record is available here. The record includes comparable estimated costs of running the service with a Lincoln Town Car instead of a Model S or Mercedes GLS class instead of a Model X. Tesloop estimates that a Lincoln Town Car or Mercedes GLS class’ combined maintenance cost to be around $88,500 ($0.22/mile) and $98,900 ($0.25/mile) respectively over 400,000 miles.

Some pretty impressive numbers!!! I still have yet to use any of my 6 passes that I bought a while ago but I’ve heard plenty of positive reviews!

Back in June 2018 one of Tesloop’s Model X 90Ds, dubbed Rex, achieved 300,000 miles on its original battery and drive units in 1.75 years. Battery degradation over the 300,000 miles was ~10%. Tesloop has also included the Model X’s full service record, see here. Since achieving the milestone the Model X’s rear drive unit has been replaced.

Looks like we may be keeping the X for MANY years to come! We have personally driven around 19,000 since acquiring her on Dec 2017. Needless to say, it’s been VERY enjoyable.

Surface Go Identity Crisis

Microsoft isn’t targeting its Surface Go at any particular customer from what I can tell. It’s not an iPad killer, it’s not going directly after Chromebooks, and it’s not really challenging $400 Windows laptops. While the Surface Laptop launched at an education event alongside Windows 10 S, the Surface Go appears to be targeted far more broadly across education, regular consumers, and even commercial usage. It’s clearly designed to be a cheaper and more portable Surface that lowers the barrier of entry for those put off by the price of a Surface Pro and its more capable specifications. It’s also aiming to be more than an iPad or a Chromebook.

Once again, instead of hitting a Home Run, Microsoft goes for a base single. A sub-par experience won’t bode well into converting or convincing future users to stay in the Windows platform but instead show them that it’s awful. I was hoping it would have been better.

What Battery Degradation?

The data clearly shows that for the first 50,000 miles (100,000 km), most Tesla battery packs will lose about 5% of their capacity, but after the 50,000-mile mark, the capacity levels off and it looks like it could be difficult to make a pack degrade by another 5%.

The trend line currently suggests that the average battery pack could cycle through over 300,000 km (186,000) before coming close to 90% capacity.

And apparently 80% nearing the half million mile mark. Hopefully the car lasts as long. :) Cheers to the future!

LA Galaxy Sells More Than LA Chargers

StubHub Center holds 27,000 and the Chargers, who are in the midst of their absurd “Fight For LA” campaign, couldn’t even pack the damn place. Bear in mind, in San Diego there would have been a minimum of 45,000 people at that preseason game and probably more.

Awesome article. Sorry I don't wish failure on the team, but the owners can go lose their monies. The tweets from Jeremy Trotter are even funnier.

An Insight to Apple's Spaceship

We go upstairs, and I take in the view. From planes descending to SFO, and even from drones that buzz the building from a hundred feet above it, the Ring looks like an ominous icon, an expression of corporate power, and a what-the-fuck oddity among the malls, highways, and more mundane office parks of suburban Silicon Valley. But peering out the windows and onto the vast hilly expanse of the courtyard, all of that peels away. It feels … peaceful, even amid the clatter and rumble of construction. It turns out that when you turn a skyscraper on its side, all of its bullying power dissipates into a humble serenity.

For the next two hours, Ive and Whisenhunt walk me through other parts of the building and the grounds. They describe the level of attention devoted to every detail, the willingness to search the earth for the right materials, and the obstacles overcome to achieve perfection, all of which would make sense for an actual Apple consumer product, where production expenses could be amortized over millions of units. But the Ring is a 2.8-million-square-foot one-off, eight years in the making and with a customer base of 12,000. How can anyone justify this spectacular effort?

I'd love a tour of this architectural marvel. Anyone?

Scandinavian Airlines Sells 2 Highly Coveted London Heathrow Slots to Unnamed Carrier

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has sold two pairs of London Heathrow slots to an undisclosed buyer, raising $75 million from the transaction.

Before the sale, SAS had the sixth largest Heathrow slot portfolio with 19 daily slot pairs. This has now been narrowed to 17 pairs, although under the deal SAS can continue to use the two pairs for up to three years.

Let's the rumors swirl. I'm crossing my fingers for this one. Emphasis are my own.

Atlanta United Brings in Fourth Biggest Crowd -- Worldwide!!!

According to a report from Soccer America on Monday, Sunday night's 2-1 league-debut loss to the New York Red Bulls drew the weekend's fourth-largest soccer crowd worldwide. The attendance of 55,927 was topped only by 75,000-plus crowds at the home grounds of Borussia Dortmund, FC Barcelona and Manchester United.

Remarkable! Let's bring this to San Diego already!!! One of my buddies has season tickets and this would be something I'd love to take my family too. Check out his view from Section 128 Row 12!!!

And look at those crowds in the street!!!

Porsche Fits One More Seat in the New Panamera Sport Turismo

I think I can finally convince the wife since this Panamera holds that crucial 4+1 seat for a grandparent or friend. =P I like it a lot and can't wait for 3-5 years for a Certified Pre-Owned version. Maybe BMW will finally bring back the 5-Series wagon stateside after their abysmal E60 showing.

Nintendo Stock Jumps 5% on Switch Sell-Out

Today was Nintendo's big day! It was so big with the Nintendo Switch release at midnight, that their stock even jumped 5%. No, I wasn't able to get in, but I'm still thinking there is room for growth. If you haven't already read, Zelda scored a 10/10 on IGN which is a pretty big deal! I'll be playing tonight after the family goes to sleep.
