updating + time

Published by irija under asa, clothing, friends, movies, sports, tech, travel

I’ve been just really up to no good lately. I’ve gotten lazy and after I get to the hotel at the various places that I go, I’m just tired. I’ll try to better again in July and keep it more up to-date. I’m not sure if you have been following along but I’m activated the “twitter” feature and usually you can find the latest short ramblings to the right of the main title of the blog. It’s meant to be short and sometimes I’m just that lazy to type anything out so I just use my phone. It’s actually really nice.

I’ve also update my pilotcrossings profile with my full July schedule. (it’s easy to look at my schedule as long as you sign up for it. It’s free for everyone and its actually really cool. I’m blocked to fly approximately 96.06 hours!!! It’s going to be a crazy month but I guess that I should get with the program and accumulate more hours rather than sitting on my ass. I get to fly to Freeport, Bahamas next month but its not an overnight. It should prove though to be a lot of fun. I can’t wait. I’m doing the same trip for 3 weeks in July and I’m also planning to go to Anchorage to visit one of my buddies from CAPT. Should be fun and I hope that the loads work out!

My friend Bobby is finishing up his Doctor of Osteopathy degree and studying for his boards on July 22nd. I was able to catch up with him and he even showed me a thing or two. It’s awesome how I’m at the age where my friends are now professionals. I still have a way to go till I get upgraded, but maybe once I’m there, I’ll feel like I’m somewhat on par.

I haven’t gone shopping in a while but there were some awesome sales at Ruehl, Abercrombie and Hollister so I had to buy a few shirts. I’ve been watching movies like crazy lately with Adelle. We were able to catch up with some of the latest and greatest such as Spiderman 3 on IMAX, Shrek 3, Pirates of the Carribean part 3, Oceans 13 (wow that’s a lot of sequels eh?), and Knocked Up. The most fun was probably the last one but they were all somewhat entertaining. The most disappointing of the batch was probably Shrek the Third. They should stop probably with this one.

The iPhone is coming out and I’m not as excited for it as much as I am for the new Sprint Mogul phone. It can do just about everything but just has a smaller screen and runs Windows Mobile 6. There are a lot of limitation with the iPhone but I’m sure that when Apple can release different models on other carriers, I’ll start to garner a little more interest on it. I’m probably going to call Sprint though and see what kind of deal I can get by staying with them. If not, then hey, I’ll go grab the iPhone!

Padres are doing alright and we were first for a while, but once again, the hard division that we are in is just getting the best of us. I hope that it ends well though which I’m sure it will!

I’m checking out the Otterbox right now and am tempted to grab it for my iPod video. I’m into swimming more so right now as it is less intense than running on my joints. I just feel like doing it with some tunes in my ear. We’ll see how the headphone set works with it too! I’ll do a review or something of the set once I get them. Alright, that’s enough right now. I’ll post more later. CYA!

I was home this past weekday to celebrate my mom and girlfriend’s birthday. I didn’t get to do anything with my mom, but Adelle and I went to Sea World and just hung out. It was good times!

The Life of a Commuter

Published by irija under asa, clothing, eating, shopping, travel

I tell everyone that commuting is worth the “better” life in San Diego and as long as I keep telling myself that, the 10 hours that I spend traveling back and forth is all the more worth it. I find myself spending less on gas which is awesome but a little more on food. I haven’t done any grocery shopping though lately and my workout routine is suffering a little bit. I have yet to study for the new endeavor into the Air National Guard but we’ll see how that pans out. I’ve got the books coming to me this week .

These last two days I’ve been eating a lot of hamburgers again and loving it. I just started spending more money too which isn’t the best thing financially, but my stomach is definitely more happy! Last night in Fort Wayne, Indiana I headed out to a Bar / Club named “Club 412″ and had two pints of beer along with an awesome cheeseburger. I had two pints of the Blue Moon Honey Special which was actually really good. I definitely enjoyed the night but I find myself having a little too much of alone time. Even this evening as I ate dinner in the A Concourse, I realized that being a pilot really takes someone that likes to be alone. I mean, it’s easy to meet people along the way, but it isn’t conducive to creating long and everlasting friendships; it’s a colleague here and a friend there. I’m not complaining but the ride as been so far so good.

I met a guy on the plane who told me about a possibility in the Border Patrol and that might be an interesting turn especially if I get to fly! We’ll see where it goes!?

I also did a little bit of shopping the other day and found a good deal at Hollister for a brown long sleeve thermal looking shirt. I got it at 50% off for $12.90. Then of course, I ended up getting the bug and realized that I needed board shorts and since Pac Sun was having a 25% sale off of boardshorts, I got a new pair of Billabong shorts and a Hurley Shirt. That’s as much shopping as I have done lately except for the all the pilot stuff that I’ve needed and it was nice.

I’m on the plane back to San Diego right now and am watching the HBO Series “Extras” which is a hit in Britain. I have to say that it’s just simply hilarious! It’s by the creator the Office and the comdy is just excellent. I’m sure that it’ll become a show in th US sometime soon and depending of the actors, I’m sure that it’ll take off right away.

8 days out…

Published by irija under asa, clothing, travel

My original schedule of being away for a quick overnight round trip (RT) on the 12th ended up with me being extended all the way through tonight (5th overnight) plus the fact that I have been on duty for 6 days so that means that because I dutied out tonight around 2100 local, I need a mandatory 24 hour rest period. So that means that I cannot fly the MTX flight out that I was originally scheduled to take back today to ATL, my regular day off (tomorrow) will be spend here in Hot Springs, Arkansas and I will DeadHead back to ATL on Wednesday. I have a new off day on 21st followed by another on the 22nd then my 4 Golden Days in a row. It should make for a good trip but we’ll see how things turn out. I really want to fly a RT in the LAX area but we’ll see where that goes.

So, because of all these extension to my original schedule, I’m forced to do some laundry in the sink of my hotel room. I don’t think that I have had to hand wash my clothing since…shoot, ever?! It’s definitely an interesting life I tell ya. But, I’m still enjoying it.

Today was a good day in that I flew back to ATL this morning with some crazy winds and landed pretty well, DeadHeaded to Little Rock on Delta, drove with the Captain to the Hot Springs Maintenance base, and took a CRJ 200 for a spin around the area. We flew up to 15,000 feet and just started to do some maintenance checks. It was fun, but frustrating at the same time because we got delayed on the flight out of ATL to Little Rock then, the maintenance checks didn’t really go that well. So, here I am. It’s going to be an exciting day in Hot Springs tomorrow! =)

Oh yeah, I was 1 bid from a Relief line as I got the 354th bid that I made which was RES703. I have May 19th - 22nd off. Yeah!!! My co-worker who is just one spot ahead of me got awarded a line. Congrats guys! I can’t wait till next month.

London in 28 Hours = No LAX

Published by irija under asa, clothing, eating, friends, shopping, travel

This stinks…during a spontaneous trip to London, my sim partner and I who were very excited to get the new LAX base found out that ASA was closing down its LAX operations this June. Looks like I’ll be stuck here in Atlanta. It’s not really that bad of a thing, but I was really looking forward to handing out with some old friends and just getting back to a normal West Coast Lifestyle. This is the airline industry though eh?

Here are some pix from the 28 hours that Eric and I spent in London. International Business to and from London! Now that’s the way to travel. 6 course meals and everything. It was the royal treatment. It makes you feel guilty for what you get. Because the original plan was for San Diego, that’s what I packed for. I wasn’t ready at all for the colder weather in London, so first thing was the find a store with a sale and buy a sweater. I ended up with a gray cardigan from Espirit. I guess if I was to do some shopping in London it was the right choice since the US doesn’t have too much brand influence from these guys. Ironically, my sweater says New York on the left upper arm. Eric and I had some curry fries which just proved to be the best food for a quick snack.

Next trip is to Amsterdam or Copenhagen. Hopefully I’ll run into some friends from a past life. It was an awesome choice but way too expensive. The dollar just under-performs the pound making it all too hard to “vacation” in London. But, you have to give it up to them for keeping it up there.

I miss you babe! I really really do. I wish that I could have come see you this past break.

of studying…

Published by irija under asa, clothing, eating, shopping, sports

I need to study A LOT!!! I mean, like this past weekend, I only put in a couple of hours rather than the multiple hours I should have put in. I’m going to be hurting this week if I don’t dedicate more time towards this. Don’t count on multiple updates till the end of this week.

This past weekend was pretty chill. I got to go out back to the Lotus Lounge with Matty P and Kurt. That was a lot of fun and it just got me a little more points with the “scene” around here. I met an awesome bartender named Tim and the GM once again. It’s a pretty chill place. The Raspberry Mojitos are awesome too.

Saturday was a late start with me just laying in bed recovering. I hadn’t drink that much in a while but I definitely enjoyed myself. I just did some errands on Saturday. Best Buy, Barnes and Nobles, Sports Authority where I bought a kick ass water bottle. Since then, I’ve been drinking non stop! It’s just so good. As long as I get the 64 ounces (~2 liters) or so it’s all good for me. They say about 3 liters is the ideal if you are working out and are trying to diet a bit and that’s exactly what I’m trying to do. I bought a pair of “diet” pants. I still wear a 32×32 but this one brand just doesn’t want to work with me. That’s my goal for the next 30 days. I’m also going to be doing some running every other night for 15 minutes. Hopefully that’ll help a little. I also got some Nike Dry-Fit shirts on sale from Sports Authority but they were L and apparently that was gigantic so I exchanged them for Mediums. I haven’t tried them yet, but I’m sure they’ll fit too. I returned the shorts and saved some money. =)

I bought a new webcam because the last one I sold while I was in Luxembourg to a colleague. I bought the Logitech Quickcam Communicate STX for $57.99 because the next step, the 5000, was $89.99. I just happen to go back today and saw that the 5000 was on sale for $59.99, so I’ll have to pick that one up instead. The only difference is that it has RightLight 2 Technology which probably won’t be that much of a difference, but what the heck. I’m still debating on how to solve my external hard drive issue. We’ll see soon.

I had Smokey Bones today which was a truly amazing experience. The prices weren’t that high and the amount was a generous portion. I’m ready to have some left overs tomorrow for lunch. I’m going to try to not eat out at all this entire week. We’ll see how long that goes with PB&J, Turkey, Ham Sandwichs, some carrots and whatever else. I still have some Cup-O-Noodle and some Ravioli things. I think that I’ll do just fine.

Condolences to the family of the pilot who passed away on takeoff of the Continental Flight. I’m glad that everything turned out safely for the rest of the passengers.

Bears freaking just took that game away! I can’t believe that the Chargers are losing Cam Cameron to the Dolphins. Hopefully he won’t take that many people with him! He was a damn good offensive coordinator but he definitely deserves his chance. He would have taken over for Marty next year! I wonder why he didn’t leave?! And we’re losing our Tight End coach too! It’s just all over the place for the coaching staff next season. Who knows, Carroll might end up down here! That would be pretty cool!

bout time….Happy New Year!!!

Published by irija under clothing, tech

What an awesome 2006! I closed out two chapters of my life and ushered in a new one. I hope that everyone has been able to follow along. This will be “the blog” to check out for a while until another significant even starts up.

It’s has been about 1 year to the day since all the blackberry users received a nice gift from Google. Finally, today, I just noticed that Google released the Google Maps Application for the Palm Treo. I started playing around with it already and it is everything that I could have wanted. This application alone was one reason why I even contemplated switching to the Blackberry 8700. Now, hopefully they’ll start playing with some integration that will enable you to add in the contact to your directory.

Still no hope for the gMail Google App that is on the Blackberry for the Treo. We’ll see in the next few months!

Adelle is here and we were able to celebrate the New Year together. We also got to watch The Pursuit of Happyness the other day which was a sweet movie. I still need to catch Good Shepherd, but it will be a while until some funds roll around. I spent it with a couple of friends at a local bar. It was everything that I could have hoped for. :-) I hope that everyone else had a good and safe New Year. It’s going to be an awesome 2007!

oh yeah, I also bought some awesome Wrangler Khakis pants from “the Wal-Mart” the other day and they feel better than the ones that I have been buying from Banana Republic. I know that it is weird that I’ve said that, but we’ll see how the Dockers feel when I get a chance to buy them somewhere. (I left a pair of BR Khakis in the Luxembourg Hilton a while back but it didn’t matter because they weren’t that great. ) That’s probably my next purchase during this year. Have to get back to the business casual attire again. Oh joy!
