iPad 2018: Basic but Proficeint

There isn’t a single viable competitor to the iPad. It is the only good tablet for less than four or five hundred bucks. So, if nothing else, I’m thankful that it’s as good as it is.

There really isn't and if you're still wondering to Pro or not...

I think, for the vast majority of people, the cheaper iPad is the better choice. Unless you know for sure that you are going to be able to use the iPad Pro as a laptop replacement (and are very adept at the ins and outs of how iOS works), just get the cheaper one.

... and the official Apple Newsroom Article here. I'm thinking it's time to upgrade from my iPad mini 1. For the kids. But then again, I'm thinking the Pro at 2x the price might be worth the A10X (vs the A10) and the Stereo Four Speakers (vs 2) along with the Smart Keyboard Connector, Fully Laminated/True Tone/Wide Color 10.5" Display (vs 9.7") , and TouchID 2.

Mammoth 2018 Day 2

I’m finally getting around to editing and post processing my videos. Enjoy! Day 3 Part 1 is also finished and I’ll link it here later today.

Waking up on Day 2 for a full day of skiing lessons for Norah and a half morning AM session for Benji. He decides to wail and throw an amazing temper tantrum so we get advised to maybe come back in the PM. He gets an amazing instructor named Heather who makes the whole experience even more exciting for us! Norah rides the Magic Carpet after lunch and is excelling while gaining confidence + new skiing buddies for life!

Mammoth Day 3 Part 1

Excited for day three, I ventured out with both Norah and Benji to get them going. Another full day of skiing lessons for Norah and a half morning AM session for Benji. This time around, Norah gets to be with two friends and Benji gets a different instructor which gives him pause. I get to finally hit up the slopes after a four year hiatus where myast trip was at Stowe Ski Resort with Matty P during my initial Captain upgrade at ASA. Good times then, great times today!

I spilt the day into two parts. The first segment is essentially me with friends followed by part two which includes Norah.

Tim Cook on Privacy

“The ability of anyone to know what you’ve been browsing about for years, who your contacts are, who their contacts are, things you like and dislike and every intimate detail of your life -- from my own point of view it shouldn’t exist.”

Agree.

“We’ve worried for a number of years that people in many countries were giving up data probably without knowing fully what they were doing and that these detailed profiles that were being built of them, that one day something would occur and people would be incredibly offended by what had been done without them being aware of it,” he said. “Unfortunately that prediction has come true more than once.”

It’s truly a sham and shameful.

Final Case Against Android

This past week, a New Zealand man was looking through the data Facebook had collected from him in an archive he had pulled down from the social networking site. While scanning the information Facebook had stored about his contacts, Dylan McKay discovered something distressing: Facebook also had about two years' worth of phone call metadata from his Android phone, including names, phone numbers, and the length of each call made or received.

Android is open. Apparently completely open. Google, what say you? I think there’s even more of a falling out to come especially with Apple’s Tim Cook doubling the down on Apple as well as Walt Mossberg mentioning how he secured his tech life in retirement.

Mammoth 2018!

It was the first time since 2014 for myself and the first time as a family. The forecast was bleak showing temperatures in the high 8°F, cancelled flights days prior to our arrival and windy conditions but we were going to prevail. This would be Arden’s first flight and our first as a family of five and yes, we non-revved. It’s was beautiful! Going on a large trip with a bunch of friends just made the experience that much more memorable. Here’s a video of Day 1 with Days 2 through 4 in the works. I’m determined to go not only go back next year but to snowboard a lot more!

Tesla Model 3 Smokes V8's

We all knew the inevitable videos would start popping up of Tesla's Model 3 versus "insert car here." Being advertised as a 0-60 mph 5.0 car, we've seen that the Model 3s have all been outperforming that metric as Tesla is also known to under report their true performance numbers. Check it out down below!

Community Owned Broadband is Better

A new study out of Harvard once again makes it clear why incumbent ISPs like Comcast, Verizon and AT&T are so terrified by the idea of communities building their own broadband networks.

According to the new study by the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University, community-owned broadband networks provide consumers with significantly lower rates than their private-sector counterparts.

Not only cheaper but more transparent in relation to user fees and extra taxes. Competition is better.
