Stepping Out and Into the Left Seat

When it comes to flying, the different seats have different tasks. Being a Captain holds its weight in responsibility, but let's not forget that a First Officer is equal in task. As I get going on my first trip as a Captain once again, it's up to me to make sure that all the boxes are checked and that ultimately, I'm ahead of the plan. Here's one of the first pictures of me in the new uniform jacket showing off that fourth stripe!

Read Between the Lines but Just in Case

But just in case they failed to pick up on her [current President Joanna Geraghty] obvious signals, here’s the message in its most simple and straightforward form: “JetBlue Is For Sale!”

Guess you don’t have.

Airplanes, Cars and Jumpys

Getting called out on a redeye to JFK on a short call moment, I flew LGB-JFK then get a deadhead back to LGB about one and half hours after landing at 4:35am then jumped back to LGB at 7:00am. Drove home, cooked a meal for the family then right to a birthday party for one of Norah's old classmates. Good times!

JFK to LGB

After a delayed departure out of Albuquerque followed by an even later hotel arrival, my schedule gets modified and I become illegal per FAR 117 rest requirements. We are at the airport hotels which are still, once again, too far from NYC so I find myself just heading back to the airport for the ride back home.

[117.25.(e)] No certificate holder may schedule and no flightcrew member may accept an assignment for any reserve or flight duty period unless the flightcrew member is given a rest period of at least 10 consecutive hours immediately before beginning the reserve or flight duty period measured from the time the flightcrew member is released from duty. The 10 hour rest period must provide the flightcrew member with a minimum of 8 uninterrupted hours of sleep opportunity.

Albuquerque New Mexico

We landed late last night. I chose to sleep in and catch up on sleep. I changed my mind about going to the Petroglyph National Park and headed instead to the Standard Diner followed by a movie for ONLY $5.15!!! Logan was pretty good but maybe a little underwhelming.

Coffee afterwards to wait out the rain and found an awesome shop called Espresso Fino!

Scandinavian Airlines Sells 2 Highly Coveted London Heathrow Slots to Unnamed Carrier

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has sold two pairs of London Heathrow slots to an undisclosed buyer, raising $75 million from the transaction.

Before the sale, SAS had the sixth largest Heathrow slot portfolio with 19 daily slot pairs. This has now been narrowed to 17 pairs, although under the deal SAS can continue to use the two pairs for up to three years.

Let's the rumors swirl. I'm crossing my fingers for this one. Emphasis are my own.

Day Sleep and Lunch with Matt

Arriving early AM, I uploaded the last two videos from the weekend then slept hard. Matty P came over and picked me up and we headed out to Tum Thai in Rockville Center ~ 15 minutes away. Since the city is just too difficult and time consuming to get to, this was a great find. Flew to Albuquerque and back in the hotel. Short day with a full day of rest tomorrow.

End of Lake Jennings Camping & Beginning of a Rare 4-Day Trip

Day 3 of 3 camping at Lake Jennings. A definitely better night's sleep for all. Missed out on some awesome fireside chat since I fell asleep putting Benji down. Snoozed a bit longer than intended but we all had an awesome pancake breakfast brought to you by one of the awesome camping moms. This trip couldn't have been as successful without the planning of one of the most organized camping moms!

I found out I got assigned a four day trip so after packing up, went home, had lunch, took an awesome shower then napped up until I had to go and drive to Long Beach. Took an extra hour because of traffic and of course the plane was late so I was on time!

Banned!

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), today announced it is issuing an emergency order to ban all Samsung Galaxy Note7 smartphone devices from air transportation in the United States. Individuals who own or possess a Samsung Galaxy Note7 device may not transport the device on their person, in carry-on baggage, or in checked baggage on flights to, from, or within the United States. This prohibition includes all Samsung Galaxy Note7 devices. The phones also cannot be shipped as air cargo. The ban will be effective on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at noon ET.

It's serious. Don't mess around and even think about showing up to the airport with Samsung's Note 7! (Bold is my formatting)

Can you come to an unanimous agreement when it comes to receiving an awesome benefit such as a free flight?

From the capital to the campaign trail, political partisanship and a contentious election make disagreement feel like the new normal. It is clear that the country is divided. Or is it? Have I mentioned that I love working here?

Traveling is Greater than Possessions

The instant gratification that comes along with the hefty price tags on new clothes, trendy sneakers and expensive jewelry is satisfying enough to be considered an actual addiction.

But it’s crucial for us to remember the importance of investing in our life experiences even more so than splurging on the next big thing from our favorite designer; it’s true that money can’t buy you happiness.

In fact, it seems the happiest people in this world have found a way to distance themselves from shopping addictions and unnecessary spending.

I'll admit, it's been pretty awesome flying as much as I do. The benefits along with an amazing travel partner help out too. ^_^
